Loki – Interesting, different, and D.B. Cooper…?

Let me start this off by saying I’m a huge Marvel fan. I’ve spent 37 hours in a theatre watching all the Marvel movies for a special release of Avengers: Age of Ultron when it came out. I LOVE Marvel. With that said, I haven’t loved phase 4… at least not until Friday.
Marvels third Cinematic Universe major television series to be released on Disney+, Loki, just changed things up. We started with WandaVision, a weird and funky show that was often left confusing the audience. Not just leaving on cliff hangers, but actually confusing people. I won’t lie, I wasn’t to sure of it at first but towards the end I actually came to like it. Then we had the release of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. You ever had to sit through something that was extremely boring but you knew you had to understand it to move on? that’s how I felt with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I wanted to know the plot so I could continue to understand phase 4, but my gosh was it slow. Unfortunately for Disney+ the show was taken that well either. it never really got off the ground… not even on the wings of Falcon.
So Disney+ has two Marvel TV series out. An interesting (and well liked) but odd WandaVision, and a bland & slow The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. They need to pick the direction these series are going, and they have Loki to do that with. Thankfully they chose to go more of the WandaVision route vs the other. Now I wouldn’t say its as much of a shocker as when WandaVision released. We know the character well, Loki has been around through most the Marvel Universe. We know what to expect from this character and his mischief that follows. It also follows a well known Marvel path: Time travel, Infinity stones, the Tesseract, and a hooded shadowing villain causing trouble (and of course disturbing a time line).
What I do like about Loki so far is that Marvel has given him his own little corner of the universe. We are not involved in the “real world” issues like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but were also not having to completely create a new place like WandaVision started off with. Loki can interact in a new way with the universe and Marvel has lots of options for where to take the story.
I think Loki has a good balance of things Marvel fans like as well. We have some intense moments with new villain’s, fire & explosions, comedy, and magic. It’s a show that everyone can find a little bit of something they enjoy. While it does have some plot points that could go deep, it is still a bit light hearted and not taking itself to seriously. Exactly something you would expect knowing the type of character Loki is in the rest of Marvels Movies.
Seeing Loki go from a god to someone that can be controlled by a simple remote is interesting. Of course with his mischief that doesn’t last for long, but even still he has no use of his magic in this world. He is at the mercy of humans.
Marvel often has a way of starting things out interesting and ending them in a typical Marvel ending. Big fight, someone brings in magic, saves the day. I truly hope they can make the Loki series maintain a fun and curious vibe throughout the show. Even while bringing in the more serious plot points I hope they can keep up with what the fans have enjoyed so far. The majority of people in my circle have all had very positive reactions to Loki, and I think this will be an interesting turn in the Marvel Universe.
Easter Eggs
Something Marvel does very well is include lots of Easter Eggs into movies and shows. Which is always fun to look out for while watching the newest episode.
D.B. Cooper

D.B. Cooper is one of the most famous criminals in American history. He hijacked a Boeing 727 in1971 and escaped with $200,000 in his possession by skydiving out of the plane. He nor the money was never found. The story goes very similarly to the short scene in Loki. They landed the plane, he was brought the money, they took off again and he jumped. The fact that they made Loki D.B. Cooper is pretty cool. Would definitely be something a God of Mischief would do.
Loki Laufeyson

Loki’s documents show his last name as “Laufeyson”. A last name given by being the son of Laufey, the Frost Giants King. We already know he was Odin’s adopted son, but still cool to see.
Kang The Conqueror, Schrodinger’s Equation, & Infinity Stones.
Lots of references to what could potentially be Kang the Conqueror, meaning we get to see that come into the universe much sooner then expected. Which could lead into some interesting storylines and what better place to get into that, then with Loki. While the show hints at lots of other Easter Eggs, I won’t cover them all in this article and will let you try and find some. I think the show has the potential to set itself up to be something unique that sets Marvel up for an awesome Phase 4.
