Far Cry 6: Chaos in Yara

The Far Cry franchise has been consistently gaining popularity with each passing installment. With Far Cry 6 on the horizon, franchise fans are eager to learn as much as they can about the upcoming shooter. What’s its release date and can fans expect many changes from previous installments?

What Is Far Cry 6’s Story?

Far Cry 6 puts players in the place of a revolutionary called Dani Rojas battling against Antón Castillo’s dictatorship of Yara, which has been in place for decades. While many details have been kept close to the chest, Ubisoft has left out a few snippets. Antón, for example, witnessed his father’s execution five decades beforehand.

He subsequently uses this to justify his tight fist on the region. Players will help to overthrow the dictatorship. Exactly how this will be done – and if players will have alternative endings – naturally remains unclear at this point.

There’s A Change To Guns For Hire

Guns for Hire was quite popular in Far Cry 5, with players taking full advantage of the recruitable friends. There’s a similar mechanic in the sequel, although it’s been renamed Amigos. Ubisoft has also confirmed that it’s also been limited to furry friends.

Outside of a dog called Chorizo, players can take advantage of a crocodile named Guapo. The latter of these can be used to kill enemies while the former can be used as more of a distraction.

As for human companions, franchise fans may be disappointed, as there doesn’t seem to be any regular human pals. Instead, there’ll be certain characters who may help you during certain missions.

Will There Be Co-Op?

Ubisoft has confirmed that the shooter will have a co-op mode, just like its predecessors. The publisher isn’t saying too much about it, however. As a result, there’s little to say about it. Far Cry 5 and New Dawn, 6’s immediate prequels, both had co-op modes.

While these had a lot of commonalities, there were also a few notable differences. That could mean that franchise fans can expect more of the same, but with a few tweaks and improvements.

Where & When Will Far Cry 6 Be Released?

Far Cry 6’s release date is set for October 7, 2021 and it will be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, and PC. PC players might be a little disappointed, however, as it isn’t going to be released on Steam.

Instead, it will only be available on the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store. It’s also set to be released on Ubisoft+, the publishers’ subscription service. As it stands, Steam is one of the few large online-only retailers where it won’t be available.
