The Secret Lair Drop Series from Magic: The Gathering have been pretty interesting. If you aren’t familiar with them, they contains special cards that feature some really cool artwork from lots of different artists. Each drop is only around for a short time, and once they run out that’s it.
Definitely a cool piece for any collector to add to a collection. The art is usually fantastic in my opinion. MTG just announced the newest artist and special guest, Jen Bartel. If you don’t know who that is, she’s a comic artist that has worked with companies like Marvel, DC, and Disney. She’s also collaborated with brands like Netflix, Adidas, and Red Bull.
Her art is colorful and vibrant. I think having such a cool and different artist in the MTG scene will be great. Plus I love comic art, and having that brought into the cards is awesome. This art isn’t for everyone though. With all the Modern Horizons 2 stuff happening right now there’s a lot of attention on the old art styles and boarders. Don’t get me wrong those cards have a place in MTG and bring it back to it’s roots. But these new borderless and bright color cards are a great addition to the world of MTG art.
