What We Know & What We Expect: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

One of the biggest Sci-Fi worlds was brought to our world thanks to James Cameron’s Avatar. In this record-breaking blockbuster film, the planet of Pandora and its many unique characteristics were brought to our screens. With creatures like the Na’ vi wanting to save their planet and the resources they have from the RDA, Cameron set the tone for a franchise that would lead to stories many are wanting to hear. While the continuation of this captivating saga was announced as soon as the first feature hit the theaters, the second movie has been pushed back multiple times. Finally, with the merging between Disney and 20th Century Fox in 2019 the production of the Avatar: The Way of Water continued. This is why despite the announcement for its release in 2022, many were surprised by Ubisoft’s trailer of the game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
With many details kept under wraps about the movies, little is known about the game. What has been confirmed so-far is new characters, species, and land that fans will encounter. This immersive experience is set in the west frontier of Pandora a place not yet explored. The player will enter the game as a Na’vi and will be able to interact with this world in a way never done before. For this same reason, the game will only be able for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Stadia and Amazon Luna. The game is set to be released in 2022 and will complement the franchise. While many things remain secret, there are some assumptions based of the trailer and the little pieces of information revealed.
Senior vice president of Walt Disney Games, Sean Shoptaw, and the vice president of Disney and Pixar Games, Luigi Priore, confirmed that the game will not follow the plot of the movie and instead will be a brand-new story. This leaves many wondering about how the game will fit the franchise. Since Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the second film are going to be released in the same year, a connection is expected. Perhaps the game will bridge the gap between movies creating the transition from land to sea. Plus, the game will create buzz for the second installment of a franchise that started more than 10 years ago.
While waiting for more information regarding this upcoming game a lot can be imagined about the adventures in Pandora. The trailer reveals RDA robots like the ones seen in the film so it is not farfetched to imagine that the same evil corporation will be involved. Perhaps the research team showcased in the first movie is not the only in the planet and it has more people exploring different parts of Pandora. For now, nothing is certain, and the only thing left to do is wait on more information regarding this future gaming experience.
