Dune Release Approaching – What to Expect and How to Watch it

Dune has always had a place in the sci-fi and nerd world. Video games, board games, and movies have all been made about this iconic story. When the news of a new movie coming out hit the world there was definitely hype around it.

It will be directed by Denis Villeneuve. Know for his directing on many well known sci-fi movies like Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival, this will definitely be a good fit for his style. The previews and trailers we have seen so far look amazing. Full of stunning shots, great looking locations, and an interesting story, this looks like it will be a great adaption of the dune story.

Format to see Dune?

With that said, the director suggests seeing it in IMAX. With so many different formats out (my favorite being AMC’s Dolby Cinema) I was skeptical that IMAX would be the best bet. But Villeneuve made it clear in an interview with Deadline that this was the case.

“It has been dreamed, designed, and shot thinking about IMAX. When you watch this movie on the big screen, it’s almost a physical experience. We designed the movie to be as immersive as possible, and for me, the big screen is part of the language.”

With streaming service HBO Max also showing the movie it will leave some wanting to see it from the comfort of their home. If you can get out to a theater I would definitely recommend the IMAX experience. These movies are made for the big screen and the sound/score is made for more then just TV speakers.

How to see Dune?

Dune releases officially on October 22nd in theaters. However many places will be showing it the night of October 21st. My AMC here is showing it starting 6pm on the 21st. I will definitely be there to see the first showing! So check out the ticket options local to you, and maybe you can catch it a day early.

HBO Max was also going to start showing it the 22nd, but recently moved that date up a day. Starting 3 p.m. Pacific/6 p.m. Eastern you will be able to stream it right from the house. This will be free to stream as long as you have a HBO Max Ad-Free plan. Which is only $14.99 a month. If for some reason you can’t make it out to the theater, this isn’t the worst alternative.

How long is Dune?

Dune will have a run time of 155 minutes long, or 2 hours and 35 minutes. This seems to be an average time for sci-fi and action packed movies these days.

I hope this movie lives up to the hype it is receiving. From everything I’ve seen so far I don’t have any doubts. Let us know how you liked it!
